Preschool and school
Malung provides five municipal school management areas
containing preschools, family day nurseries, compulsory schools and
after-school recreation centres.
Further, one
headmaster for the adult education and two for the upper secondary
school.
Preschooling
Preschooling directed to children
between 1-5 with parents working, studying, on parental leave with
younger children or unemployed. The choice is between family day
nurseries, where the children are 1-5 years old or preschool divided
by age: 1-3, 3-5 or 1-5 depending on location.
The
Local Government is obliged to provide a place within four months
after receipt of application. Running hours are working days 06.30
–18.30. The hours may vary according to need.
The fees are charged for 12 months, i e
even during vacations. Charge from and inclusive the first day of
acclimatization. Two months notice with full charge during notice
period.
Public Preschool
Public Preschool compulsory for children 4-5,
providing 15 hours/week from and inclusive the autumn semester the
year of the child´s fourth birthday. Public preschool is optional
for the children and free of charge.
Unemployed
Unemployed have also the right to
preschool 15 hours/ week at lower charges.
Parental leave
Parents on parental leave with younger children
have the right to preschool for the elder child at lower
charges.
School Children Care
School Children Care directed to pupils between
6-12. Open before and after school time and during school
holidays.
Compulsory School
Compulsory School includes form 1 to 9
for all children between 7 and 16. The teaching is compulsory and
free of charge. Teaching aids, school lunch and health care
are all free. From the age of 6, the child has the right to a
preschool place – optional and free of charge.
The school year starts medio
August and lasts until beginning of June coming year. The school
week has five days, Monday – Friday.
The reports are G (passed), VG
(passed with distinction) and MVG (passed with great distinction).

Upper Secondary School
After the 9th form you can choose a
three year program in the upper secondary school. In Malung we can
offer 10 different programs. The reports are: G (passed), VG (passed
with distinction), MVG (passed with great distinction) and IG
(failed).
Special School
Special School for mentally
handicapped children. A nine-year compulsory school. Can if
necessary be extended to 10 years.
Adult Education
You are entitled to start the upper secondary
school until your 20th birthday. After that, you can choose from
many different public educations.
We provide
as well courses in Swedish language for immigrants (SFI) – the first
basic course. All immigrants older than 16 are entitled to study and
the sooner they start the better, preferably not later than one to
four weeks after the arrival.
The Music School
The
music school welcomes all music and singing enthusiasts! From and
inclusive form three, the children may learn how to play an
instrument. Singing lessons are offered from 7th form. We welcome
adults as well!
