Welcome to ”Jannesgården” Malung!
The manor house of Jannes Per Jansson is today
known as ”Jannesgården”. It was built in the 1880s and served as an
inn until 1918. The inn was well-known throughout Sweden and enjoyed a
good reputation, partially due to recommendations from the Swedish King
after he visited the restaurant in 1892 when the railroad building was
completed through Malung.
After Jannes Per Jansson´s death his son, Ernfrid
Arhusiander, lived in the house while he also kept a law office on the
first floor. Today the house is owned by the City of Malung and is open to
the public as an interesting building and an important part of our
cultural heritage.
The interior of Jannesgården is well-preserved.
Please note the Ten tile stoves!
On the first floor some aspects of Malung´s
industrial history are presented. The most important trade through
centuries has been the fur trade, still a specialty in the area. The first floor hosts both a permanent and temporary
shows – all connected to the leather history and future.
Outside is the beautiful garden of ”Jannesgården” –
a gem in Malung! It was recently restored to its turn-of-the century
appearance. Visitors may sit
down and relax among many oldfashioned Swedish flowers.
